I had a good time with this! That seems to be a trend this year with many of the movies I’ve seen in theaters. I adore Mia Goth, this role was obviously tailor made for her. One of my favorite things about her performance is the voice. It’s impressive how different it is from her normal speaking voice. I thought Maxxxine expanded really well on the storyline while keeping some of my favorite elements of the first 2. I’m always on board with a girls supporting girls message. It wasn’t quite as shocking as X but there were still some disturbing moments. Overall it’s a great summer slasher, perfect for 4th of July! I will admit I think of the 3 movies Pearl is definitely the most iconic and quotable, but I don’t think Maxxxine was as disappointing as some other reviews I’ve been seeing. I think I’ll marathon all three when they’re available on streaming! 7.5/10
