Run Time: 1hr 45min
This movie was kind of ridiculous, in both good and bad ways. The thing about M. Night is that you really never know if his movies are meant to be taken seriously or not, and this one is no different. If they were purposely going for an over the top campy thriller, then they nailed it, and I was dying laughing throughout the run time. Some of the songs played by the fictional pop star were actually pretty good. I learned after watching that the actress is Shyamalan’s daughter and she has a music career in real life! Her acting left a bit to be desired, but every other actor was making similar strange choices so it could have been purposeful. Again, that is a tough thing to decipher in Shyamalan’s movies. All in all The concept itself is pretty unique and had me intrigued, I just think that the ending fell a bit flat. This is also a movie that I think it’s better to have not seen the trailer, to avoid the reveal that happens early on in the plot. I typically have no issues suspending disbelief for movies like this especially if I’m having a great time watching it, but I have to say they really lost me by the end of it. If you’re someone that’s bothered by characters making really dumb decisions then this movie is really going to irritate you. However, despite all its flaws and plot holes I honestly had a pretty good time watching Trap. It’s a pretty decent popcorn thriller that I’m not going to discourage anyone from seeing. Just be aware of the type of movie you’re sitting down to watch. I’ll give it a 6/10
