I’m not including the poster for this one because I don’t want to advertise this beyond mentioning the title. A massive trigger warning for s*xual violence against women: There was a warning at the beginning of the movie too which I should have heeded. You don’t even have to read the rest of this review just know I hated it. This movie is advertised as a thriller/mystery with some comedic elements mixed in. I thought I was seeing a fun summer popcorn flick. Instead, I was traumatized. I’m genuinely not trying to be dramatic but I burst into tears and ran out of the theater to take a breather. There have been movies where I think including *that* type of violence is somewhat justified but this was just gratuitous. Even if you push beyond the vile themes the movie is just not made well. Awful dialogue, zero subtlety or class, it’s tonally all over the place, and the pacing had me checking the time at some points and getting whiplash at others. Then there’s the subpar attempt at a “grl pwr” message. Spoiler alert even though it doesn’t matter: You can’t make a #metoo themed movie and have most the female survivors die. It completely negates the message. Don’t support this movie. Go see Alien Romulus or even Twisters (both of which I’ll be reviewing shortly). 0/10

My theater experience:

When the movie started a group of people in front started talking non stop. A couple of men sitting in my row yelled for them to shut up. They did for a while, until toward the end of the movie they started again and the 2 men in my row stood up and attempted to start a physical altercation while the movie was reaching it’s climax. I told the usher to get security but the 2 men left before anyone showed up. They even tried to approach me as if I was going to back them up. I politely gtfo of there. I did get a free ticket so I guess it’s all good 😅 what a night.
