Run time: 1hr 50mins

Worst father of the year award could goes to this movie’s protagonist! I was mildly entertained watching Speak No Evil. It was pretty suspenseful and thrilling but unfortunately not quite enough to keep me from feeling the run time. I’m not really sure why, but I’m not the biggest fan of James McAvoy. He’s a good actor but there’s something about his performances that rubs me the wrong way. Everyone was so enthralled with him in Split, but I thought he was somewhat disingenuous. I felt similarly while watching Speak No Evil. He was good but the movie as a whole just did not land for me and that includes McAvoy’s somewhat cartoonish acting. I also found it hard to root for the main characters. They made so many ridiculous choices, it’s definitely one of those thrillers you want to scream at the screen the entire time. Not to mention the parenting choices taking place. Quit being a coward and protect your family dude! I’m also sick of seeing ads for it, the trailer played before every movie I’ve seen the past couple months! Honestly I found the plot very predictable and knew exactly where it was going at every turn. I’ve heard that the original Danish version of this movie makes much more sense because Danish people are so overly polite that it’s somewhat realistic they could get in a situation like this, but that’s just something I read! If you like cheesy thrillers and James McAvoy then you’ll probably enjoy this but personally it fell flat for me. 6/10
