So, I’ll be releasing my Top 10 favorite movies of 2024 soon, but I thought it might be fun to write a worst of 2024 list first. Because of the strikes last year there has been a huge increase in the movies that were clearly AI generated in some capacity. Although many of these you can’t blame AI for.

Dishonorable mention – Moana 2: The first warning this was going to be a disappointment was the lack of Lin-Minuel Miranda. Who, to be fair, also wrote the Skuttlebutt in 2023’s Little Mermaid so he is not without flaws. However, his absence here is heavily felt. They also set up a somewhat interesting villain who just isn’t mentioned for the rest of the movie? Unless I missed it. I was pretty distracted by the child running up and down the aisles I’ve heard this was meant to be cut into a 3 episode miniseries and it shows.

6. The Front Room: This could have been Brandi’s comeback, it had so much potential but this was just… shitty. Literally. I have never seen so much crap in an 1.5 hour movie. The entire thing was like working in a nursing home, I would know. I was really looking forward to the supernatural elements that were hinted at in trailers but nothing ever actually happened. A boring and crappy film. 2/10

5. Red One: I was not at all surprised at how bland and one note this movie ended up being. Again, clearly AI written. I have never been a fan of the Rock, and this did not convince me otherwise. He’s the same as he’s always been here. I’m also getting really tired of the self aware humor that’s been shoehorned into every movie since Deadpool and Marvel made it cool. I forgot about this movie literally 2 hours after seeing it. 3/10

4. It Ends With Us: This movie practically ruined Blake Lively’s career and personally, I think it’s pretty justified. They marketed this as a dark romance and gave no warning as to the subjects included. Which resulted in many viewers feeling completely caught off guard. I know there are many people who felt moved by this movie and I don’t think feeling that way is invalid, however I don’t think the subject matter is handled with the amount of tact it requires to truly be effective. It’s written very poorly, which is not entirely unexpected from a Colleen Hoover book. 3/10

3. Blink Twice: I seem to be one of the only people that absolutely despises this movie. Another film centering gratuitous violence against women. This one at least had a trigger warning, but it failed miserably to actually disclose the exact kind of violence depicted. Saying “includes depictions of sexual violence” is not specific enough, and by the time I got to the warning, my ticket was bought, snacks ordered, and I truly didn’t think it would be that bad. It was. They marketed it as a thriller/comedy, this was dark and disgusting. 0/10

2. Magalopolis: I guess there was a reason no one wanted to distribute this movie, so Francis Ford Coppola had to fund it himself. Apparently this movie has been in production for over 30 years. I really had hoped I could at least appreciate this as an experiment in filmmaking by Coppola, but I honestly couldn’t even do that. It feels like it punishes anyone who wants to look deeper into the message and plot. Which there really was no plot that I could see. It’s absolutely a waste of time. 2/10

And now on to my number one pick for the worst movie of the year. This movie was SO bad it ruined the first which was one of my favorites in recent years. A disappointment that was seen from a mile away but still managed to miss the lowest expectations. Drum roll please….. *cymbal crash*
1. Joker 2, or I guess Folie a Duex. Who cares? That title is dumb. I wanted this movie to be over the moment they started singing. It’s as if they gave all the fans of the first movie a giant middle finger. Ever since I saw the first Joker in theaters, I have wanted to cosplay as a female Arthur Fleck. After Joker 2, I truly think it would be embarrassing to do that now. Even within the movie Arthur begs Harley Quinn to stop singing. Who thought taking a character that chain smokes 10 cigarettes at a time would make an excellent musical protagonist? It’s ridiculous. I wish I could forget I ever saw this movie. 0/10
