Where to watch: Netflix
Run time 1hr 35mins

I’m going to include a massive Trigger Warning for this film, it is a dramatization of the Dating Game serial killer and the victims involved. It includes very real and graphic physical and sexual violence against women. There seems to be an unending stream of movies that include that right now. I left a pretty emotional and scathing review of the recent film Blink Twice due to the way they depicted said sexual violence. However, while Woman of the Hour also depicts this level of violence, it is vastly different in it’s portrayal. Woman of the Hour does not explicitly show the sexual assault rather, they elude to it through context clues. This can still be difficult to watch. I think I can safely say that most of, if not all women, have had the realization that they are in an unsafe situation with a man that could turn at any moment. Even if “nothing happened”, the feeling is still there and there’s a reason for it. This film encapsulates that feeling absolutely perfectly. There’s moments where you see the switch in the killer’s eyes and the hopeless and terrifying realization each woman experienced. Anna Kendrick was vivacious as always in her performance, but I also really appreciated her directing choices. They way each victim is handled with care but realism really drives home the passion each person involved had for this story. I was incredibly emotional by the end and it’s actually taken me some time to finish this review and post it. There’s just so much to digest here. If you think it will be emotionally safe for you to do so, please check this one out. Anna Kendrick donated all her earnings to foundations like RAINN who work with survivors of assault and abuse. I give the movie an 8/10.
