Run Time: 2hr 17mins
Holy shit, what a RIDE. I adored every minute including the 2 post credit scenes. Ryan Coogler has already proven himself as a director obviously, but this is honestly some of his best work. I have seen it twice now and it’s even better the second time. When watching this the first time there’s so much to take in it can be overstimulating. So during my second viewing I was able to catch so much more. This film left me with such a longing feeling. I felt inspired to learn even more about Jim Crow era, Hoodoo, Spirituality, Black history etc. All things I am not nearly as well versed as I’d like to be in. I have not stopped thinking about Sinners, I find myself singing the songs almost as much as I sing Wicked! The soundtrack is honestly unparalleled. It was as if the score was it’s own character in and of itself. Incredibly moving at times, sensual at others, and meaningful throughout. Every single one of the cast members are on their A game here. It’s been said by others but I’ll say it too, Michael B Jordan delivers such an incredible performance you forget he’s playing both roles. Also, everyone is so hot in this movie it’s ridiculous honestly. That was one hell of a breakout role for Miles Caton! I can’t wait to see him in more. I was surprised by how humorous this movie turned out to be, excellent line delivery and comedic timing by everyone. Particularly Cornbread and Remmick, Remmick is probably the funniest villain since Hades. A fair warning, this is absolutely not family friendly so leave your parents at home. Truly, I could go on and on about Sinners. My ONLY critique is the pacing can be a bit inconsistent and putting vital information in a post credit scene is a little annoying. However, this is a near perfect film. I want to see it again. It is absolutely worth seeing in theaters! 9.5/10
Just as a side note, many of you know this already but a few months ago I fell down my wooden stairs and broke my tailbone in 2 places. This meant I could not sit in a movie theater for over a month. I was able to start seeing some movies again in mid march but I was still not feeling up to sitting at my computer and write in my blog so that is why I have not posted in some time. However, I am happy to report some pretty decent improvement in my recovery and am hoping to release reviews for the movies I’ve seen soon! Thanks for sticking with me 🙂
